PARENTS

Hello Parents,

My name is Edgar Vera, and I am the current president of the Epsilon Kappa chapter of Delta Sigma Phi. I assume that if you have found your way to our website, it is because your son is pledging, or has expressed interest in pledging the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity.

I commend your desire to be informed about the activities your child is pursuing at college, and am sure you have questions or concerns about whether or not joining a fraternity is right for him. Given the often negative portrayal of Greek Life in today’s media, it is only natural for you to be curious. But I want to assure you that the purpose of Delta Sig is to enrich your son’s college experience, not hinder it.

There are infinite ways that joining Delta Sig can benefit a young man in college. Academic achievement is among our top priorities, and we work hard to ensure our brothers meet the standards of excellence we set for ourselves. Brothers are held to a strict minimum GPA requirement in order to retain membership, our chapter’s detailed academic plan requires proper documentation of study hours, and our incentive program rewards brothers who excel academically.

Aside from those mandated by the university, there are no restrictions or prerequisites to being a member of Delta Sigma Phi. We pride ourselves on being an organization of diversity and inclusivity, and welcome members from any and every background. We believe in creating a welcoming culture within our chapter, and in effect, to spread that culture across Loyola’s campus.

Additionally, Delta Sig encourages participation in various areas on campus, not just within the fraternity. Our brothers are involved in a multitude of different organizations and extracurricular activities at Loyola, including Student Government, Loyola EMS, Campus Ministry, Intramural sports, Doctors Without Borders, and ROTC just to name a few. Our dedication to service and philanthropy on campus is also a distinguishing characteristic of Delta Sigma Phi.

Delta Sig also provides numerous opportunities and resources to brothers at both a chapter, and national level. Our chapter puts on workshops each semester on topics ranging from health & wellness to professional development, and offers scholarships to our undergraduate members. Nationally, the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity hosts several renowned educational and leadership focused programs, including Leadership Institute, Regional Leadership Academy, and our biannual National Convention.

Membership in Delta Sig carries with it the promise of lifelong bonds with fellow undergraduate brothers, but also an instant connection to the nearly 95,000 alumni members throughout the country, many of whom are eager and willing to get to know and offer their expertise to young members.

Delta Sigma Phi has given so much to me since I first joined in the spring of 2017, and I can honestly say it has been the best decision I have made since coming to Loyola. The men of this fraternity have a true commitment to bettering ourselves, our community, and the world as a whole.

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me at evera4@luc.edu.

Yours Truly,

Edgar Vera
